Texas Challenge Academy
The Texas ChalleNGe Academy (TCA) is a tuition-free educational program sponsored by the Texas National Guard, designed for 16- to 18-year-old individuals who have disengaged from traditional high school settings. The program aims to reclaim the potential of at-risk youth through education, training, mentoring, and community service.
Program Structure:
Residential Phase (5½ months): Cadets reside on campus in a quasi-military environment that emphasizes discipline, structure, and personal accountability. During this phase, they receive academic instruction with opportunities to earn a high school diploma or GED. The curriculum also focuses on life skills, physical fitness, leadership development, and community service.
Post-Residential Phase (12 months): After completing the residential phase, cadets enter a year-long mentorship period where they apply the skills learned to pursue further education, employment, or military service. Mentors from the community provide guidance and support to help cadets achieve their goals.
Eligibility Criteria:
Ages 16 to 18
U.S. citizen and Texas resident
Disengaged from traditional high school
No felony adjudications or convictions
Physically and mentally capable of completing the program
Willing to be drug-free
TCA operates campuses in Eagle Lake and Sheffield, Texas, and accepts applicants from across the state. The program is voluntary, and there is no military obligation for participation.
